I honestly just want what's best for everyone . . . and I guess in reality that's all I've ever wanted. But as the old saying goes "pleasing everyone pleases noone," and you end up just learning from your actions, becoming some sort of amalgamation of past experiences. While nothing can ever be perfect, there are times when I wish I could hold back from giving and be a little selfish sometimes, maybe have things go my way for a change. But people have their own interests in mind, and you end up having to take a back seat in their ride a majority of the time.
I haven't been myself lately. My job demands too much out of me, school is taking its toll, and people in general seem to take what's left. You would think you could expect better out of people, but life surprises you every time. Carelessness runs rampant in these parts, and if you're not careful, you may just get the brunt end of an unfortunate, or worse, malicious, circumstance. Betrayal of trust, a heart's mourning, and the ailing cries of a mind too far strained by those willing to put in the effort; sometimes you have to run away to a safe place, somewhere you can seek solace when everything else just brings you chaos.
No matter the issue though, somehow I end up getting by. I came across a collection of quotes while researching for a project, and it reminded me where I needed to be . . . and how to put forth the effort to get there. These words of wisdom brightened my day when everything else seemed to bring darkness. Everyone should have something that brings comfort and happiness to them during trying times, and for me, quotes provide me with depth, answers and the time for reflection. In some ways though, they are the only words I can believe in nowadays...

"To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, garden, or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded."
-- Ralph Waldo Emerson
"So, I learn from my mistakes. It's a very painful way to learn, but without pain, the old saying is, there's no gain. I found that to be true in my life. You miss a lot of opportunities by making mistakes, but that's part of it: knowing that you're not shut out forever, and that there's a goal you still can reach."

"It's a wonder that I haven't abandoned all of my ideals, they seem so absurd and impractical. Yet I cling to them because I still believe, in spite of everything, that people are really good at heart."

You're on your own.
And you know what you know.
You are the guy who'll decide where to go."

"Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. Do not believe anything because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything because it is written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and the benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it."
