Massive Black threw a hair-raising event last night at The Mohawk with "Visions," a one-of-a-kind multimedia event combining cutting-edge, live, digital and traditional art performances from the top film, video game and classically trained artists in the art world. ScreenBurn was live on the scene for an aural/visual experience like no other.
The Mohawk's expansive outdoors set-up (along with a spacious upstairs patio) set the perfect stage for the madness and vision Massive Black brought to Austin. Artists were flown in from around the world to draw, from their imagination, artistic conceptions of grand characters of varying shapes and sizes, all sporting lavish costumes. . . or sometimes nothing at all! The art mirrored the crowd though as burlesque dancers, half-naked costume enthusiasts such as Tarzan and Jane, and performance artists with painstakingly detailed outfits danced the night away.
Giant screens decorated the outer lining of the Mohawk and extended into the heavens, illuminating the crowd with live video of artists drawing their creations in real time. Massive Black's vision for a new type of art education through The Art Department was clearly understood throughout the night as pulsing music from local and international Djs played, a special performance by International Burlesque performer Eva Strangelove took stage (or flight in some cases), and provocative runway fashion by Loves, Mariessa "vogued" their way through the crowds.
